Thanks sincerely on behalf of the RRS22 committee to every applicant, participant, and audience member who took to time to share their passion for robotics. We wish you all the best in your robotics endeavors.

As a volunteer run endeavour in it’s second year, there is still plenty of room for improvement. On reflection, this year’s event had greater enthusiasm and participation from the community, despite a smaller audience during the livestream. The RRS committee is aware of this, and will be making strategy changes to ensure that RRS2023 justifies the effort put in by everyone. I will note that the positive feedback this year has been wonderful, a few people went out of their way to express how much they enjoyed this year’s event, the variety of speakers and the passion of the community. We’re confident that next year’s event we will be able to iron out the kinks and run a brilliant event for an audience worthy of the talent on display.

The Reddit Robotics Showcase 2022

During the pandemic, members of the reddit & discord r/robotics community rallied to organize an online showcase for members of our community. What was originally envisioned as a half-day event with one mildly interesting guest speaker turned out to be a two day event with an incredible roster of participants from across the world. You can watch last year’s showcase here.

This year, we are planning an event which anticipates the enthusiasm we’ve had from our community, continuing to provide a unique opportunity for roboticists around the world to share and discuss their work, regardless of age or ability.

A small selection of last year’s robot’s.

We are delighted to receive support from Wevolver, Robohub, The National Robotarium, and the IEEE-RAS Soft Robotics Podcast, who are helping us to reach more people from academia industry, and ensure we are proactive with our representation of diversity.

“It’s great to see the reddit showcase is happening again! I presented last year, and it was a pleasure to see hobbyists, professionals, academics and students all together in one place sharing their passion for robotics. It’s important to see a diverse community, so I really encourage everyone to apply!

– Sabine Hauert, President of Robohub –

The showcase is free and online, and is to be held on July 30th & 31st 2022, livestreamed via the Reddit Robotics Showcase YouTube channel.

We extend an open invitation to those keen to share their robotics with the world. Please apply via this online form link. Successful applicants will be offered a timeslot of 10, 15, or 30 minutes, which includes both presentation and Q&A time. The committee will form presentation categories based on the applications. If you wish to register your interest as a keynote speaker, please email RRS chair Olly Smith directly.

This is not a formal academic conference, and alongside academic and industry professionals we encourage hobbyists, undergraduates, early career academics etc to apply, even if their work is still in progress. To that end, speakers are recommended to present their work in a public friendly manner.

Call for keynote speakers at the first Reddit Robotics Showcase (RRS2021)

The reddit r/robotics subreddit is a global online community of 138,000 users, ranging from hobbyists and students to academics and industry professionals. This year, we have invited our community to share their work as part of an online showcase. No matter how big or small, all projects are welcome, and a work in progress is valid. The showcase is as much about people sharing their robotics experiences as their projects, hence this is not a formal conference or symposium.

The showcase date is planned for the weekend of July 31st. On the day, successful applicants will join a video call on the official discord and to give a brief presentation (5 or 10mins) about their work, followed by a short question and answer session. Presentations will be livestreamed To Robohub’s YouTube channel, to allow for larger audience participation, and to create a publication (arXiv) of the showcase, available for everyone. If you would like to find out more about the event, click here.

So with that being said, we are looking for potential keynote speakers, to give a 20-40 minutes public friendly presentation, followed by a Q&A. It could be of your own research, or an overview of the research lab of business that you work for.

If you are interested in giving a keynote presentation, please email Olly Smith at olly.smith1994@gmail.com
